Hello friends!
1.Tonight and tomorrow (March 17 & 18) Red Red Meat is playing at the Empty Bottle in Chicago–rare and special events to celebrate the re-release of our 1995 record Bunny Gets Paid.
2. Thursday there’s another RRM show at SxSW in Austin at the Radio Room for the SubPop showcase. We hope to see you there!
3. On the Califone front, we have finished recording a new album. We just finished the last of the mixing a few days ago. We will hit you with a title and tracklist soon. It is a killer and we are mighty excited about this one. Lots more Califone news coming soon.
And we hope everyone is very good and enjoying the coming springtime!
Be well, love, Kalifone
Ich freue mich sehr.
Chicago locals: any recommendations for restaurants near the show? Bonus points for walking distance and/or vegetarian.
Flew in from Portland OR just for the two shows
you speld your name rong.

Caught the RRM Empty Bottle show Wed night–it was fantastic! Mostly very tight, and loosening up in a few places where it was good to get looser. Considering that the Empty Bottle doesn’t have the best acoustics in the world, the sound was great too. I thought that the songs from Bunny Gets Paid and Star in the Manger in particular sounded, for the most part, much better than on record. (And Tim R. dealt very well with some poor soul directly in front of me–meaning right at the stage– who had gotten so inebriated that he couldn’t stand and apparently had become speechless as well.)
If any band members happen across this, more please if you can manage it! I would happily go to another Chicago show, and would be thrilled with another album. To any fans, be sure to catch the Texas show, or any other that arises; I doubt very much that you’ll be disappointed.
Thanks for the info, cflrry. We ended up going to Letizia’s Natural Bakery‎ one night (all manner of panini/focaccia sammiches, outdoor seating, nice people) just a few blocks away around the corner on Division, then Pizza Metro after the second show (open late, good pizza, nice people).
Speaking of nice people, we ran into Pastrysharp’s own Braindead, some good conversation and it was nice to meet a fellow foamer. (Does that translate across the different American regions? ‘Foamer’s are people who are so obsessed with something they are basically foaming that the mouth as regards the object of their obsession. It’s not an insult, when given from one foamer to another, and can be a term of great respect in the sense of admiring another person’s dedication.)
Anyway: good people, good music, seemed to be only one asshole in the audience each night, but Tim handled then with grace and got things back on track. Got an earlyish copy of the new Bunny CD, something akin to finding a piece fo the True Cross in my book.
I want to thank the people at the Ruby Room (our ‘hotel’ during our stay, most comfy beds I’ve ever slept in); the people of Chicago (who were kind and helpful and fun to hang out with; Braindead for a (too short but good nonetheless) connection at the show; and of course the band without who this trip ()and many other good experiences in my life would never have happened.
This trip: totally worth it. RED RED MEAT at The EMPTY BOTTLE, people. It’s kinda self-explanatory.
So looking forward to the new Califone CD. Soon please.
